Postponement of the start of the Film Academy

Due to the current pandemic situation and the measures outlined in the resulting COVID-19 Emergency Ordinance of the Free State of Saxony, it is necessary to postpone the start of the Saxon Film Academy’s “Film Production Assistant” course, originally scheduled for December 6, 2021.

Under the current circumstances, launching the course on the scheduled date would not be successful or effective. The in-person sessions planned for the course are not possible under the current regulations, and shifting the course to a digital format is neither convincingly feasible nor pedagogically sound. Digital instruction contradicts the Film Academy’s concept, where personal contact with renowned instructors from the film industry is a key aspect of teaching and, not least, plays a role of immense importance—one that should not be underestimated—in building valuable professional networks for students’ future careers.

The prevailing circumstances resulting from the dramatic rise in infection rates in Saxony are hardly conducive to channeling the participants’ energy, drive, and enthusiasm toward virtual courses.

With the approval of the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture, and Tourism, the start of the Saxon Film Academy’s first “Film Production Assistant” course is now being postponed to Monday, March 21, 2022.

For the few remaining spots in the course, the application deadline has now been extended to February 18, 2022.
