After four years in office, the independent advisory board for the reconciliation of care and work has presented its first report.
The Independent Advisory Board for the Compatibility of Care and Work, set up by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs in 2015, consists of 21 members and deals with issues relating to the compatibility of care and work and their legal implementation on a voluntary basis. The chair of the advisory board is Prof. Christel Bienstein, the deputy chair is Prof. Dr. Andreas Hoff from the GAT Institute for Health, Ageing, Technology at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
After four years in office, the advisory board presented its first report and officially handed it over to Federal Minister for Family Affairs Dr. Franziska Giffey on June 20. The advisory board report contains a review of the Caregiver Leave Act and Family Caregiver Leave Act as well as numerous resolutions and recommendations for action with the aim of further improving the situation of family caregivers.
Dr. Franziska Giffey:
"Care is a key issue in our country. With the Concerted Action on Care, we are focusing on professional carers. At the same time, we want to support family caregivers. They often have a threefold burden: Caring takes time. It also costs money, for example if you have to reduce your working hours and lose income. And caring costs energy. These are the points we need to address. This is also shown by the first report of the Independent Advisory Board on Work-Care Balance, whose recommendations for action and resolutions we will carefully examine."
The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs has planned a specialist conference in September to discuss the recommendations for action with the specialist public and relevant politicians. The aim of the event is to inform the specialist public about the report's recommendations for action, stimulate an exchange between experts and contribute to the further development of the topic.
