Launch of the Saxon Film Academy
The first "Film Production Assistance" course starts on December 6 in Görlitz.
On December 6, 2021, the Saxon Film Academy will launch its first course , “Film Production Assistant,” in Görlitz on December 6, 2021, following careful planning and development. Funded by the Free State of Saxony and implemented by the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences as the responsible educational institution, the Saxon Film Academy was established and is supported with great vigor and enthusiasm by policymakers and the film industry. Its mission is to train mid-level professionals in various areas of film production—a field for which there is a high demand not only in the region but throughout Germany.
The “Film Production Assistant” course consists of a six-week theoretical component covering a wide range of topics, including film technology, project management, financing, budgeting, copyright law, sustainability management, and team development. To ensure a particularly focused and effective learning experience, classes will be held in small groups of no more than 16 participants.
Experienced professionals from the film production industry will share their in-depth expertise with course participants in short, cohesive blocks lasting two to five days, using a teaching approach that is both precise and practice-oriented. They come from Leipzig, Berlin, Babelsberg, Hamburg—and Görlitz as well. The list of films on which the instructors at the Saxon Film Academy have worked is long—well over 200 television and feature films.
The six-week theoretical component is followed by a two- to three-month internship at a major film production company. The Film Academy will actively support students in finding internships through its extensive network of contacts in the film industry. The “Film Production Assistant” training program is a full-time course and concludes with the degree awarded upon completion of the internship and a successfully passed exam, resulting in a “Film Production Assistant” certificate in early May 2022.
To enroll in the program at the Saxon Film Academy, participants should demonstrate flexibility and a passion for film.
The special introductory price for the “Film Production Assistant” course is 1,490.00 euros.
Additional training courses in the fields of “Production Design Assistant” and “Lighting/Camera/Sound Assistant” are in the planning stages and are expected to be offered in the summer of 2022.
Applications for the first “Film Production Assistant” course will be accepted through the end of November 2021.
Applications should include a resume, a photo, a contact address, degree certificates, and a statement of purpose explaining why you are seeking the “Film Production Assistant” training program.
Applications must be submitted exclusively online as a single PDF document via the online application form.
