Rector expresses solidarity with the people in Ukraine.
The Rector of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Alexander Kratzsch, condemns the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops and is concerned about long-standing academic relations:
"Russia's attack on Ukraine shakes us to the core. Peace is the indispensable foundation of our society and of our work as an open-minded scientific institution. Only in peace can people develop their full potential. In these difficult days, our solidarity is with the people of Ukraine, our Ukrainian students and Ukrainian partner universities."
The HSZG has long-standing cooperative relationships with Ukrainian universities, such as the Odessa Polytechnic State University, the Ternopil National Pedagogical University and the Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University. Several young people from Ukraine are currently studying at the HSZG. There are also good academic relations with Russia and many other nations.
"The international academic community is a valuable asset that must be preserved at all costs. When people learn, teach and research together across national borders, lively relationships are created that contribute significantly to international understanding," emphasizes the Rector with regard to international academic relations. Now it is a question of active cohesion: "At the moment, we are all called upon to support the Ukrainian population directly. The HSZG will work together with other organizations within the scope of its possibilities."
