Ready, Steady, Go!

The time has come! The new bachelor’s degree program in “International Business Communication” will officially launch in the winter semester of 2021!

After a great deal of meticulous work on course content and the right processes, following countless meetings and many discussions with internationally active companies, institutions, and scholars, one thing is clear: With the “International Business Communication” degree programme, HSZG offers unique opportunities for our graduates to help shape the economy of the future with their specialized professional, communication, digital, language, and intercultural skills!

In the video, Prof. Falk Maiwald introduces the new degree programme.

Communication Expertise! What Does It Entail?

The business world urgently needs experts with sound management skills who, through professional communication, can build bridges between internationally active companies and successfully interact with people from different cultures both within and between companies.

Our seven-semester bachelor’s program is designed for creative minds who are interested in business, enjoy communicating and learning languages, and are eager to gain intercultural experience.

During the program, you’ll learn how business, management, law, and digitalization function in the modern world and how to ensure the long-term success of companies, networks, and projects. You’ll also learn how to communicate professionally and can deepen your expertise in areas that align with your interests and inclinations: in internal communication—which involves, for example, managing collaboration among employees in a digitized work environment (New Work, remote work), or in the field of external marketing communication, which deals with media, PR, and social media marketing, among other things, or even in cross-border or regional networking with international partners.

Unlike similar degree programmes, we offer you targeted advanced English training as well as specialized training in German language proficiency. Thanks to our ideal geographic location in the border triangle, you’ll gain direct, real-world experience in the linguistic and cultural interactions with our key economic neighbors in Poland and the Czech Republic.

During your studies, you’ll not only learn practical content in the modules, but you’ll also have the opportunity to further develop and deepen your skills through projects and an entire work placement semester at the international level.

  • in online marketing or
  • public relations (PR),
  • customer management,
  • in project management,
  • in internal communications, or
  • in human resources

Students who are interested in launching their own startup will also be equipped with the necessary skills.

The key questions of the future can only be answered on the basis of international cooperation. Interdisciplinary approaches are becoming increasingly important. There are few places in Europe where economic, cultural and social contexts can be studied in such an applied way as in the border triangle between Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. Benedikt M. Hummel, Managing Director of Görlitzer Kulturservicegesellschaft mbH

The "International Business Communication" degree programme is highly relevant to us as a company. We look forward to working with students who complete this programme with good achievements. With the rise of smart machines and AI-driven processes, human communication is becoming increasingly important—even a "unique selling point." Those who can communicate effectively and efficiently across national borders hold the key to project success. I also recommend maintaining a strong focus on technical understanding—not taking things for granted, but truly understanding them. We wish all students in the new degree programme every success. Dr. Stefan Jakschik, Member of the Executive Board, ULT AG

In our fast-paced, media-driven world, it is essential for executives to be able to communicate flexibly and appropriately. Particularly in international business contexts, national or cultural nuances must be taken into account in a way that does not compromise one’s own interests. Thanks to its well-designed curriculum and the networking opportunities offered by Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the new degree programme in International Business Communication provides an excellent foundation for this.
