Vice-rectors elected

The candidates proposed by the Rector for the post of Vice-Rector were elected by the Senate with a large majority.

The candidates proposed by the Rector for the post of Vice-Rector were elected by the Senate with a large majority. From March 1 of this year, the re-elected Rector, Prof. Dr. phil. Friedrich Albrecht, will be assisted by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Christa Heidger as Vice President Education and International Affairs and Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Tobias Zschunke as Vice Rector Research. The latter already held the office of Vice-Rector Research in the term of office that is coming to an end.

Personal details: Prof. Christa Heidger was born in Boppard (Rhineland-Palatinate). She studied biology and completed her doctorate in the field of animal ecology at the Philipps University of Marburg (Hesse). Since March 1995, she has been a professor of "Applied and Experimental Ecology" in the Faculty of Mathematics/Natural Sciences at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

During her time at the university, she was heavily involved in teaching, research and university self-administration. For example, she gained extensive experience in study organization as a course officer and Dean of Studies, Socrates and Erasmus officer, Chair of the Examination Board, member of the Senate and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics/Natural Sciences, which will benefit her in her new position.

She has also been active in many different areas of research. Her current environmental education project "SPUR" (With Hurvinek and Spejbl on the way to nature) is a cross-border project with Czech partners in which child-friendly environmental education materials are being developed for day-care centers and elementary school.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tobias Zschunke was born in Dresden, studied mechanical engineering (fluid mechanics/thermodynamics) at the TU Dresden and completed his doctorate and habilitation at the same university in the field of energy process engineering.

In October 2007, he was appointed Professor of Power Station and Energy Technology at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. He has held the office of Vice-Rector for Research since 2010. During his term of office, he initiated institutional quality assurance at the university in the field of research, the creation of a research information system, developed the "Connectors" project together with state politicians and the SMWK and led the launch phase.

He campaigned for a significant increase in SMWK research funding since 2011. He paid particular attention to contacts with regional, state and federal politics as well as the economy, to which he will continue to devote a great deal of commitment in the future. Under his leadership, the long-standing traditional science conference at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was transformed into a format that can be continued sustainably at a reasonable cost: The Year of Science along with a striking opening event.
