Around 700 interested people came to find out about our study opportunities.
The organizers and participants of the University Information Day on 14 January 2016 at our university were pleased with the response. Around 700 prospective students, including around 80 from the Czech Republic and Poland, took advantage of this day to find out in detail about the study options and conditions at both university locations.
In addition to numerous prospective students from the region, prospective students from the Dresden and Cottbus areas who had specifically made the journey to Zittau and Görlitz were also welcomed. They had already gathered information about the university at trade fairs or on the Internet and now wanted to see the study conditions at the university for themselves.
At the Zittau site, the Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs, Professor Christa Heidger, opened the university information day. She pointed out that the university would like to offer young people in the region in particular career prospects with its diverse and promising range of courses. She also recommended that the guests make active use of the extensive range of offers listed in the event program. More than 100 prospective students followed this invitation and took the opportunity to find out more about the special courses on offer, the day's program and application procedures during an introductory presentation.
First-hand information was available at the KIA (Cooperative Studies with Integrated Training) stand in Zittau, where numerous interested students gathered. KIA employees and KIA students from the university's training workshop were happy to answer questions about this now very popular form of training.
This year, Rector Professor Friedrich Albrecht welcomed the guests at the university's Görlitz site. "Choosing the right subject is one of the most important decisions you make in your life," he said. He encouraged the young people to take a look around the university and to talk to students from a wide range of degree courses. "Because that's where they get first-hand information," he said. He also encouraged the young visitors to take advantage of the taster courses on offer.
Many visitors were impressed by the modern facilities at the university, but also by the informal atmosphere they found. The short lectures, taster opportunities and laboratory tours were very popular. The prospective students also made intensive use of the opportunity to talk to the students themselves and exchange information about everyday life at the university.
Many guests also took the opportunity to try out the food on offer in the canteens in Zittau and Görlitz and take a look at theuniversity libraries at http://hsb.hszg.de/.
