Opening new doors
During Equal Opportunity and Diversity Week, May 13–17, as well as on Teaching Day, innovative educational concepts will be discussed and successful real-world examples presented at HSZG.
Zittau/Görlitz University is opening its doors for the upcoming Week of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, May 13–17, 2024, to celebrate equal opportunity, diversity, and excellence in teaching. Highlights of the week include Teaching Day on May 15 and a variety of events taking place in Görlitz.
Under the theme “Equal Opportunity and Diversity in Academic Studies and Teaching—(Not) an Issue for the HSZG?,” this series of events offers a platform to discuss innovative educational concepts and present successful practical examples that have brought about positive change at the HSZG and beyond.
The week will kick off with a public working session featuring the Vice President for Education and International Affairs, Professor Sophia Keil, on the topics of equal opportunity and internationalization. The program also includes interactive workshops, lecture series, and panel discussions in which faculty, staff, and students will work together to develop innovative approaches to equitable and diversity-sensitive teaching.

Another highlight of the week-long event is the awards ceremony for the Teaching Award from the Friends of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences as well as the Saxon Higher Education Didactics Certificate Plus, which recognizes and promotes excellence in teaching.
Equal Opportunity Week and Teaching Day serve as key gathering points for faculty, students, and anyone interested in working toward a more inclusive educational landscape.
For me, Equal Opportunities and Diversity Week and Teaching Day are not just events - they are a matter of the heart. They are a living expression of how we live our values as a university community and fulfill our commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse learning environment. During this week, we not only celebrate the diversity of our students and teaching staff, but also send a clear signal for teaching that is based on equal opportunities and excellence in equal measure. It is an invitation to come together in a place where appreciation, innovation and the power of knowledge exchange go hand in hand to shape a future that opens doors for everyone.
