It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that we bid farewell to our esteemed colleague, Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Yve Stöbel-Richter, who served as Professor of Health Sciences, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Managerial and Cultural Studies, and Senator at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

After studying sociology, psychology, and theater studies in Leipzig, as well as spending time studying in Berlin, Bielefeld, and Grenoble, she earned her doctorate in 2000 (magna cum laude) and completed her habilitation in 2008. Her professional career took her through various positions at the University of Leipzig until her appointment in 2014 at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. From 2015 to 2020, she was a member of the faculty leadership.

Research and Teaching

For over two decades, Prof. Stöbel-Richter played a decisive role in shaping research in the field of health and society. Her work has appeared in renowned peer-reviewed journals, monographs, and numerous book chapters.

As a teacher, she was an inspiring, supportive, and demanding figure. She knew how to encourage students to think independently and guided their academic and personal development with great care and openness.

Her Impact and Legacy

Her research combined subject-specific competence with social relevance. In doing so, she always focused on ethical, psychosocial, and health-related issues. Her collaborative spirit, dedication to mentoring, and commitment to academic teaching made her a leading figure in academia and universities.

Ms. Stöbel-Richter combined ambition, professionalism, warmth, and scholarly precision, while always maintaining an eye for detail—whether in designing teaching materials or in personal conversations. What she wrote remains—what she gave to people endures even longer.

Her passing leaves a profound void in research, teaching, and our personal interactions. We remember her with gratitude and cherish her work as a lasting legacy of our university.
