We mourn the loss of Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Yve Stöbel-Richter

It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that we bid farewell to our esteemed colleague Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Yve Stöbel-Richter, who served as Professor of Health Sciences, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Managerial and Cultural Studies and Senator of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

After studying sociology, psychology and theater studies in Leipzig and study visits to Berlin, Bielefeld and Grenoble, she received her doctorate in 2000 (magna cum laude) and habilitated in 2008. Her professional career took her through positions at the University of Leipzig until her appointment to Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in 2014. She was a member of the faculty management from 2015 to 2020.

Academic work and teaching

Prof. Stöbel-Richter played a decisive role in shaping research in the field of health and society for over two decades. Her work has appeared in renowned peer-reviewed journals, in monographs and in numerous book contributions.

In teaching, she was an inspiring, supportive and challenging personality. She knew how to encourage students to think independently and accompanied their professional and personal development with great care and openness.

Her impact and her legacy

Her research combined professional expertise with social relevance. She always focused on ethical, psychosocial and health-related issues. Collegial collaboration, commitment to mentoring and her dedication to academic teaching made her a leading figure in science and academia.

Ms. Stöbel-Richter combined ambition, professionalism, cordiality and scientific precision and always kept an eye for detail - whether in the design of teaching materials or in personal conversations. What she wrote will remain - what she gave to people will remain longer.

Her loss leaves a deep gap in research, teaching and personal interaction. We remember her with gratitude and preserve her work as a lasting legacy of our university.
