Prime Minister visits LaNDER³

Michael Kretschmer visited the university to speak with researchers and entrepreneurs about ongoing projects and future issues in Upper Lusatia, in the Görlitz district.

On Monday, July 20, 2020, Minister President Michael Kretschmer and State Parliament Representative Dr. Stephan Meyer met with representatives of the LaNDER³ partnership and the Prorector for research at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Raj Kollmorgen, at the HSZG’s Natural Fiber Center.

The results of the partnership’s initial phase (2017–2020) were presented, and ideas to be implemented during the partnership’s intensification phase starting in 2021 were discussed. How the partnership can be sustained starting in 2025 and how it can support the regional innovation structure were also topics of discussion. The business representatives in attendance, Dr. Stefan Jakschik (ULT AG) and Holger Wagner (Rhode & Wagner GmbH), emphasized the significant benefits of the LaNDER³ network for regional development. Thanks to the close collaboration between local SMEs, the HSZG, and the Fraunhofer IWU’s Upper Lusatia Plastics Center in Zittau, the first new startups have already been supported.

In this context, Dr. Jakschik also introduced the newly founded association neo.Net. This association brings together various local stakeholders with the goal of driving application-oriented research and education—and serving as a bridge between innovators from the skilled trades and businesses on one hand, and universities and research institutions on the other.

The LaNDER³ partnership is emerging from these discussions with new ideas and approaches—and continues to work collaboratively on innovations from Upper Lusatia.
