We are looking for a full-time Head of the Saxony Science Liaison Office in Cairo, Egypt, to start as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to one year, an extension is planned.

The position is based locally in Cairo. Employment will be through the DAAD Cairo office in accordance with Egyptian labor law and local salary structures for local staff in management positions. This is not a secondment from Germany. The office is integrated into the premises of the DAAD branch office.

About the project

The Saxony Science Liaison Office is a joint project of the five Saxon universities of applied sciences: HTW Dresden, HTWK Leipzig, Hochschule Mittweida, Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz and Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau.

The aim of the joint project is to attract qualified young people from Egypt to study and pursue a long-term career in Saxony as part of the Free State of Saxony's skilled labor initiative. The Saxony Science Liaison Office in Cairo is a central liaison office for academic cooperation, partner acquisition and student recruitment.

The operational coordination of the project lies with the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

Your role

You will independently set up the liaison office in Cairo and develop it into a central hub for cooperation between Saxon universities and Egyptian partners. You will represent the Saxon universities in Egypt and shape the strategic development of an efficient academic network.

The focus is on two tasks:

  • Attracting qualified students for study programs in Saxony
  • Establishing sustainable and long-term university cooperations

You work closely with the DAAD office in Cairo and are in continuous contact with the participating universities in Saxony.

Your tasks

  • Network development and partnerships
    Identification of suitable partner universities, especially in the STEM field, and initiation of cooperations with a high technical fit to Saxon study programs.
  • Cooperation management and academic coordination
    Moderation of professional exchange between universities in both countries, preparation of cooperations and support in coordinating study structures and recognition issues.
  • Student recruitment and advising
    Development of structured paths from initial contact to enrolment as well as advising qualified prospective students on study opportunities, preparatory courses, visas and residence.
  • Positioning and communication
    Representation of Saxon universities locally and communication of the profile of universities of applied sciences.
  • Office management and organization
    Independent establishment and management of the office, organization of events and delegation visits as well as regular reporting to the project coordination in Germany.

Your profile

  • Qualifications: Completed university degree. A doctorate is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • Professional experience: Experience in a university context, ideally in an international environment or in the development of cooperations as well as in project management.
  • Professional competence: Very good understanding of academic structures, study programs and recognition mechanisms (ECTS, module handbooks). High affinity for STEM topics (technology/natural sciences).
  • Language skills: Very good knowledge of German and English. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
  • Personal strengths: Structured and independent way of working. A feel for political and social conditions in the region and a high level of intercultural competence. Confident manner towards university management, authorities and international partners. Willingness to occasionally work evenings and weekends in connection with events and delegation visits.
