We are looking for a full-time Head of the Saxony Science Liaison Office (SSLO) in Cairo, Egypt, starting April 1, 2026. The position is initially limited to one year, an extension is planned. For legal reasons, the position is linked to the DAAD branch office in Cairo and is subject to local labor law regulations. Remuneration will be in line with the DAAD salary scheme agreed with the German Embassy. The office is located on the premises of the DAAD branch office.

The position is being advertised on behalf of a consortium of the five Saxon universities of applied sciences: HTW Dresden, HTWK Leipzig, Hochschule Mittweida, Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz and Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau.

The aim of the joint project is to attract qualified young people from Egypt to study and pursue a long-term career in Saxony as part of the Free State of Saxony's skilled labor initiative. The Saxony Science Liaison Office in Cairo is a central liaison office for academic cooperation, partner acquisition and student recruitment.

The operational coordination of the project lies with the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

Your role

You will represent the Saxon universities in Egypt and shape the strategic development of an efficient academic network. The focus is on attracting qualified students for study programs in Saxony and building sustainable institutional partnerships.

Your tasks

  • Strategic development and networking: Identification of suitable partner universities in the STEM field and initiation of joint study models with a high curricular fit to Saxon universities.
  • Cooperation management and academic coordination: Moderation of professional dialogues between professors from both countries, preparation of cooperation agreements and clarification of recognition issues, such as credit transfer and academic achievements.
  • Student recruitment and process design: Development of structured paths from initial contact in Cairo to enrolment in Saxony. Expert advice for qualified prospective students on study programs, preparatory courses, visas and residence.
  • Positioning and location marketing: Strategic positioning of the university type HAW with a focus on practical relevance, employability and career prospects. Clear differentiation from purely vocational training.
  • Office management and representation: Independent management of the liaison office, organization of high-level delegation visits, coordination of networking activities and regular reporting to the project coordinator in Germany.

Your profile

  • Qualifications : Completed academic university studies (Master/Diplom). A doctorate is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • Professional experience: Proven experience in university management, especially in establishing international cooperation and project management.
  • Professional competence: Very good understanding of academic structures, study programs and recognition mechanisms (ECTS, module handbooks). High affinity for STEM topics (technology/science).
  • Language skills: Business fluent in German and a very good command of English. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
  • Personal strengths: Structured and independent way of working. A feel for the political and social characteristics of the region and a high level of intercultural competence. Confident manner towards university management, authorities and international partners. Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends, especially in connection with events, delegation visits and appointments.
