Microbiology Laboratory Engineer (m/f/d)

permanent position.
The laboratory engineer is primarily responsible for the microbiology lab, which is part of the biotechnology laboratories. The internships to be conducted are a key component in preparing graduates of our Molecular Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology degree programmes for their careers.
The position essentially involves the following tasks:
- Preparing, setting up, conducting, and following up on experiments, including the design and implementation of new laboratory experiments in the fields of microbiology, biotechnology, and related areas,
- Maintaining the microbiological culture collection,
- Laboratory organization, including technical and organizational management of laboratory equipment and inventory,
- Supporting teaching activities,
- Supervising student assistants as well as students in internships and student projects and final dissertations,
- Assisting with the implementation of research and development projects,
- Active participation in public outreach activities (e.g., university open house, high school student internships).
The following knowledge and skills are required
- a completed college degree (in biotechnology, biology, or biochemistry),
- in-depth knowledge and professional experience in the fields of microbiology and related areas, such as molecular biology and biochemistry,
- experience in the cultivation and characterization of bacteria and fungi, as well as in molecular genetic techniques (PCR, electrophoresis, blotting techniques, heterologous gene expression) and protein purification (FPLC),
- solid, practical English skills for conducting English-language laboratory practicals.
In addition, the following are desirable:
- professional experience in the field of student education, as well as experience and knowledge of university teaching practices,
- professional experience in the design and development of laboratory equipment,
- knowledge of environmental microbiology and bioprocess engineering,
- proficiency in other foreign languages.

Salary is based on pay grade 11 of the TV-L collective bargaining agreement, provided the candidate meets the personal qualifications. The primary place of work is Zittau.
