This year, the regional fair launched with a completely new concept—because in the “Flower Hall,” the focus was on the youngest visitors! The goal wasn’t to make applications for products, as is typical at a conventional event. Instead, the emphasis was on hands-on participation at the exhibitors’ many experimental and hands-on stations.
Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences showcased a diverse range of activities—just as the academic programs at our institution are diverse. Visitors could observe microorganisms through microscopes and examine rocks. Computer scientists drew crowds with their drone flights—and electrical engineers with their programmable robots. And at the “pumped-storage plant,” visitors could experience how electricity is generated through energy conversion from hydropower. To do so, they first had to pedal hard!
Many HSZG students were on site to staff the experiment stations and explained technical and scientific concepts in a simple, easy-to-understand way. Always in the hope that one or two curious visitors might later become students at our university.
The lively activity at the booths proved that this new approach to the fair was very well received by visitors—we’d love to see it happen again next year!
