Conference: Biomass to Power and Heat 2016 from June 1-2, 2016 on the Zittau campus.
In some places, the miners still find fossilized tree trunks in the coal. Lignite was formed millions of years ago from dead plants. In the times of the pre-industrial and industrial boom, everything began with the generation of electricity from coal.
Even then, a hundred years ago and earlier, we should have said: Stop! Stop! Let's only use the energy in our factories and homes that we can harvest at the same time. Let's organize our consumption habits in industry and living environments in such a way that we can make do sustainably with what we capture and harvest! This was neglected because the urge to raise the standard of living was too great. Who wants to blame the people?
Today, it is difficult to reliably meet the constant hunger for electricity hour after hour, minute after minute without using coal, oil, natural gas and uranium. But work is underway. Biomass, especially domestic wood, naturally also plays a role in this.
On June 1, 2016, experts will meet for two days at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences to discuss the conversion of wood and other biomass into useful heat and, above all, electrical energy. The main focus will be on so-called thermochemical technologies, which include pyrolysis and combustion. And more broadly, it is about what agriculture and forestry can do for a sustainable energy supply without harming the environment or people.
The Saxon State Minister for the Environment and Agriculture Thomas Schmidt (CDU) has confirmed his participation . The event will take place as a joint Czech-German event.
