KIA Students Get Started with Deutsche Bahn
Eleven new KIA students are beginning their studies at HSZG this winter semester as part of the partnership with Deutsche Bahn and are getting to know their industry partner better right from the start of the semester.
Eleven new students are starting this winter semester through the Cooperative Study Program with Integrated Training (KIA) as part of the partnership with Deutsche Bahn at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. To kick things off, they went on a two-day field trip together with other KIA participants from the DB Elektro division. KIA combines a university degree with professional experience and, depending on the model, integrated vocational training.
On August 28, the group first visited Deutsche Bahn’s ICE depot in Cottbus. There, the students gained insights into the operation and maintenance of modern rail vehicles and learned about the technical fields of work at their industry partner.
In the afternoon, part of the group went on a hike together. In addition to gaining professional insights, the hike provided an opportunity to strike up conversations and get to know one another outside the context of their studies and daily work.
On the second day, the KIA annual meeting with Deutsche Bahn took place during a group barbecue at Olbersdorfer See. New and experienced KIA students, as well as representatives from the HSZG and Deutsche Bahn, exchanged views on their experiences in academia and the professional world and discussed current topics related to their collaboration.
Deutsche Bahn has been an important partner of the KIA (sandwich-style) degree course at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences for many years. The collaboration begins as early as the academic and career orientation phase.
Through DB ELEKTRO, for example, Deutsche Bahn and the university offer a joint program for high school students starting in 10th grade. Interested students gain insights into Deutsche Bahn’s technology, meet engineers, and can experience technology firsthand. At the same time, they learn about the opportunities for a dual degree program with Deutsche Bahn and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences—without having to make a commitment just yet.
Programs like these establish early connections between high school, the university, and the professional world, and demonstrate the diverse career paths that technical degree programmes offer.
