Career planning at the "Berufepark"

The "Berufepark" once again attracted numerous visitors to the Zittau secondary schools.

Many students and their parents took the time on Saturday, January 23, 2016, to learn about the current apprenticeship opportunities in the region. Sixty-one companies, educational institutions, and public agencies presented opportunities for starting a career at the three high schools in Zittau.

The MINT Center at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was there to inform the young people at Zittau’s Weinau School about vocational training opportunities—and, above all, to explain the potential educational path leading all the way to a college degree. This is because around 30 percent of secondary school graduates aim for a higher educational degree and, after completing 10th grade, attend a technical high school or a vocational high school—and by then, at the latest, they are potential “prospects” for our university.

Many students and their parents expressed interest in the KIA+ training program. This program is designed for 10th-grade graduates and combines dual vocational training with the acquisition of an entrance qualification for the university of applied sciences and subsequent university studies.

The direct training opportunities at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences are also diverse. They range from the traditional dual training program to become an office management clerk to the dual study program for electronics technicians—KIA (sandwich-style) degree course.

Participation in the “Berufepark” is part of many high-profile initiatives by the HSZG’s MINT Center, whose staff are strongly committed to fostering the next generation of engineers and scientists.
These activities will continue with the school’s participation in the KONVENT’A trade show on April 23–24 and Girls’ Day on April 28.
