This year's summer party was dedicated to the current topic of IT security.
There was a big crowd last Tuesday in the university's largest lecture hall at the Görlitz site. The IT Summer Party 2016 of the Department of Computer Science was opened with a ceremony under the motto "Letting ideas grow" in the packed lecture hall. High-ranking personalities from business, politics and the university delivered their greetings at the opening of the event. One of the highlights was the first-ever presentation of the IT Idea Award, sponsored by Saxonia Systems. The winner is Paul Weinhold, who completed his Master of Science (Computer Science) degree at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences at the end of 2015.
This award ceremony was certainly an incentive for the many students who had traveled from all over the Upper Lusatia region and from Poland to get a taste of university life over two days. The IT Summer Festival is not just about partying - as the name might suggest - , but the Department of Computer Science presents interesting topics for interested pupils and teachers. Internships are carried out together with students and teachers of computer science and new experiences are gained in a relaxed atmosphere. This year's summer party was dedicated to the current topic of IT security.
Together with their professor Marietta Spangenberg , the students of the Department of Computer Science had prepared a varied program on the topic of IT security. From "Sniffing, hacking and tracking for beginners" to the development of an information security concept and a security awareness course, everything was included. In addition to hard work in the workshops, there was also fun and games, especially in the security awareness course. This was also where the decisive points in the competition for the best IT security teams could be collected. In the evening, the 3 best teams were awarded prizes.
Parallel to the student program, a training event for teachers from various schools in the region took place in the network and IT security laboratory on the topic of "What traces do we leave behind on the Internet".
Students were able to work in an interesting workshop and gain new experiences. The Teaching Day ended with sunshine and a barbecue together by the Neisse.
In addition to teaching, there is of course research at the university. On Wednesday, Research Day, the students were able to take a look behind the scenes. They were guests of the company Saxonia Systems, which supported the entire event. The event was rounded off with a range of presentations by members of Professor Jörg Lässig's research group.
"Letting ideas grow" - stands for the many joint activities of the players from the university, school and company during these two eventful days. The event will be continued next year.
