Engineers with heart

This winter semester, the “Business Software” class / course at the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Management is training “engineers with a heart.” The class / course innovatively combines the various key topics of project management and Blue Engineering with an understanding of high-tech technologies in the context of Industry 4.0. “Blue Engineering” aims to raise students’ awareness of their social and environmental responsibilities as early as possible, since the largely technical content of their studies represents only a fraction of engineering work. In the practical portion of the course, students are tasked with carrying out a real-world project.

They will be supported by an interdisciplinary team of instructors consisting of Professor Sophia Keil, Christiane Matthieu from the Staff Unit for Public Relations, and Daniel Winkler from the “Learning to Learn 2” project. Before the Christmas break, the students are to organize a free and meaningful event for children on the trending topic of 3D printing, with the aim of familiarizing the children with the technology and bringing them some pre-Christmas joy. At the same time, the university aims to be perceived as an organization that is mindful of its social, economic, and environmental responsibilities in the Upper Lusatia region. After the class / course concludes, you’ll learn in the next article how the students handled the practical component and what conclusions the module coordinators have drawn.
