Senate adopts structural reform
The HSZG Senate Approves Landmark Measures as Part of the “Higher Education Development 2030+” Initiative
The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) has initiated a structural realignment of its faculties and central administrative units through two landmark Senate resolutions. In doing so, it is setting the course for the implementation of the strategic goals outlined in the “University Development Concept 2030+.”
Effective September 1, 2027, HSZG will have three faculties with the following academic focuses:
- Business
- Technology
- Society
With this new structure, the university is strengthening its academic diversity, reducing bureaucracy, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in teaching and research.
The organization of degree programs will also be modernized: In the future, the HSZG will adopt the internationally established 6+4 model, which enables shorter study periods and, in particular, makes practice-integrated programs more attractive. The Diplom-Ingenieur (FH) degree will remain a unique feature of the university within the training-integrated dual study program (KIA). In addition, at least one English-language bachelor’s and one English-language Master's degree programme will be offered in each of the three areas of specialization.
Furthermore, three new central facilities will be established starting in 2026 and 2027, respectively:
- the Digital Service Center for Digitalization and Process Management,
- the Neisse Talent & Innovation Hub for Research, Knowledge Transfer, and International Affairs,
- and the Center for Sports and Health for students and staff.
Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch emphasizes:

The package of measures that has been adopted creates the conditions necessary to ensure the Zittau/Görlitz University is prepared for the future, to achieve our strategic goals in teaching, research, and the university’s third mission, and at the same time to fulfill our social responsibility.
