Senate adopts structural reform

The Senate of the HSZG adopts pioneering measures as part of the University Development 2030+ program

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) has initiated the structural realignment of its faculties and central facilities with two groundbreaking Senate resolutions. This sets the course for the implementation of the strategic goals anchored in the "Concept for University Development 2030+".

From September 1, 2027, the HSCG will have three faculties with the following specializations:

  • Business
  • Technology
  • Society

With this new structure, the university is strengthening its subject diversity, reducing bureaucracy and promoting interdisciplinary cooperation in teaching and research.

The organization of studies is also being modernized: In future, the HSZG will be based on the internationally established 6+4 model, which enables shorter study periods and makes practice-integrated studies in particular more attractive. The Diplom-Ingenieur (FH) degree will be retained as a unique selling point of the university in the training-integrated dual study program (KIA). In addition, at least one English-language Bachelor's and one English-language Master's degree course will be offered in each of the three focus areas.

In addition, three new central facilities will be created from 2026 and 2027:

  • the Digital Service Centre for Digitalization and Process Management,
  • the Neisse Talent & Innovation Hub for research, transfer and International Affairs,
  • and the Center for Sport and Health for students and employees.

Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch emphasizes:

We are developing our university together with the people of the region for the people of the region. The package of measures adopted creates the conditions for future-proofing the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, achieving our strategic goals in teaching, research and third mission and at the same time fulfilling our social responsibility. With this decision, the Senate has shown courage and the will to shape the future. I am incredibly grateful to our university community for this great will to shape the future. We need everyone to master the challenges we face.
