University information day well received again

Numerous prospective students came to Görlitz and Zittau to find out about the courses we offer.

"We are delighted that the University Information Day was so well received again," says Dr. Stefan Kühne, Head of Studies and International Affairs. "Due to the general weather conditions in particular, we were very concerned that visitors would simply not reach our university campuses in Zittau and Görlitz and cancel their participation."

This year, around 500 prospective students, mainly from the region, were welcomed at both university locations. They informed themselves in detail about the study opportunities and the study conditions.

At the Görlitz site, Rector Friedrich Albrecht welcomed the guests.

"One of the most important decisions you make in your life is choosing the right subject," he said. He encouraged the young people to talk to students from a wide range of degree courses and to take a look around the university. "They can get first-hand information from our students," he said.

He also encouraged the young visitors to take advantage of the taster courses on offer. At the Görlitz site, the degree courses offered by the Faculties of Social Sciences, Management and Cultural Studies and Computer Science attracted a great deal of interest. However, there was also great demand for the Görlitz degree courses at the Zittau site.

At the Zittau site, the Head of Studies and International Affairs, Dr.-Ing. Stefan Kühne, opened the University Information Day. The Lord Mayor of Zittau, Thomas Zenker, took the opportunity to attend the opening, expressing the close ties between the town and the university. The university and the town of Zittau have been working closely together for a long time on a variety of projects.

In his opening remarks, Kühne pointed out that the university would like to offer young people in the region in particular career prospects with its diverse and promising range of courses. In this context, he recommended that guests make active use of the extensive range of events on offer and find out about the study conditions.

"Our aim is to make you confident in your decision and help you answer the question: Which degree course suits me best?" said Kühne emphatically.

The university's new courses of study attracted a great deal of interest. These include the seven-semester Bachelor's degree course in "Applied Natural Sciences" and the three-semester Master's degree course in "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology". The application deadline for the latter is February 28, 2019 and the course starts on March 11, 2019.

The KIA (Cooperative Studies with Integrated Training) stand in Zittau was also a hive of activity. Numerous students were particularly interested in this form of study. KIA employees and KIA students from the university's training workshop were happy to answer questions about this now very popular form of training.

The so-called "MINT-Mobility-Trail " of the faculties of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Natural and Environmental Sciences as well as Economics and Industrial Engineering at a central location in the foyer of the Peter-Dierich-Haus was very well received and contributed to the fact that the visitors could inform themselves about numerous fields of knowledge in a condensed form and also try out all the stands.

Many visitors were impressed by the modernly equipped university, but also by the familiar atmosphere they found. The short lectures, taster opportunities and laboratory tours were very popular. The prospective students also made intensive use of the opportunity to talk to the students themselves and exchange ideas about everyday life at the university. But the university was not the only focus of interest. The canteens were also very busy, with guests taking the opportunity to try out the food on offer.

Overall, it can be said that the newly developed concept for the presentation of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences at the University Information Day proved its worth and provides a good basis for further development.
