In the second part of the video series 'Arrived here', Johanna Schubert from Franconia describes her journey to the HSZG.
The three-part video series 'hier_angekommen' (arrived here) by the Public Relations Office presents students who have made their home in Upper Lusatia after leaving their home region behind for their studies. Ecology and Environmental Protection student Nino Gehler from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania kicked things off in November.
Now it is Johanna Schubert who, in the second part entitled "A Franconian between plastics, children and constructions", talks about her enthusiasm for her university and her current employer, the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technologyand makes it very clear that being a woman in a male-dominated field is a good way to combine a child and a career with studying and working.
Johanna Schubert initially studied mechanical engineering at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences on the KIA degree course. She used her parental leave with her young daughter to add on a Master's degree with a focus on design. "I always wanted to work in mechanical engineering or technology," recalls the native of Upper Franconia, who held a soldering iron in her hand for the first time at the age of six. Her training partner on the KIA course eventually led her to Zittau. "What I found good about the dual study program was that you could alternate between theory and practice, through training and study," says the Diplom engineer (FH).
Rough surfaces, precise measurements and 3D coordinate measuring systems have been her world ever since. In the video, she explains how she has managed to combine her studies with starting a family, what her day-to-day work as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology is like and whether she plans to continue living here in the future.
On behalf of the Public Relations department, Christiane Matthieu is responsible for the camera and editing, and we would like to thank her once again.
In the coming weeks, Tunisian Sadok Fennira will present his reasons for 'arriving here'.
