Together for more climate protection!

Climate disasters, uninhabitable regions, and extinct animal and plant species. Ongoing climate change poses major problems and challenges for our generation and future generations. Added to this is our dependence on supplier countries, which—along with rising raw material prices—provides further reasons for active climate protection and a sustainable lifestyle.

“To counteract this trend, it is essential that we use our resources responsibly,” Florian Reß is certain. Together with Annekathrin Kluttig, he is forming a new climate management team at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. Both view sustainability and effective environmental protection as a central task in mitigating future climate challenges.

Currently, both are working as a project team on a comprehensive climate protection plan for both university campuses. This plan is intended to serve as a strategic basis for decision-making and a planning tool for all activities at the university in the future, and to firmly establish climate protection as a cross-cutting priority. Through short-, medium-, and long-term measures and optimizations, the university aims to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the future and make its own contribution as a climate-neutral institution.

“High-quality research and teaching naturally always come first and must not be compromised in the long term by the climate protection measures we develop,” says Florian Reß. The initial goal is to incorporate all requirements and necessary aspects from every area. “That is why we place particular emphasis on close cooperation and communication with all university stakeholders, ” explains Annekathrin Kluttig. Only in this way, she adds, can all requirements and processes be taken into account and optimized in the best possible way.
