The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG), Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is seeking to fill a position (40 hours/week) as soon as possible as part of the “EdgeVision” project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF):
Research Assistant (m/f/d) Edge Vision

fixed-term position through May 31, 2026.
Embedded systems, combined with AR/VR or XR technologies and integrated with energy-efficient hardware modules, offer a wide range of possibilities for developing intelligent systems for human-technology interaction in the field of wearables.
The goal of the project is to research artificial intelligence technologies and AR/VR or XR methodologies, identify innovative application possibilities, and test them in practical research scenarios. The technical and scientific focus involves researching and developing the necessary AR/VR methods to implement the identified use cases and application requirements.
The position holder (m/f/d) will have the following specific responsibilities:
- Analyzing and evaluating existing AR/VR technologies with regard to their suitability for achieving the project’s goal,
- Conceptual and technical planning as well as implementation of the experiments necessary to fulfill the project objectives for the AR/VR technologies used (HUD/HMD/CAVE),
- Planning and overseeing the testing of functional prototypes and sample applications,
- Developing specific requirements in cooperation with the project partners,
- Evaluating and refining the developed AR/VR models and methods with regard to the identified requirements,
- Drafting and presenting project reports and scientific papers.
The following knowledge and skills are required:
- Preferably a scientific college degree in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, mechatronics, or engineering physics (at least a B.Sc., M.Sc., Diplom-Ing., Diplom-Inf., or comparable degrees)
- Expertise and experience in application areas of AR/VR or similar technologies,
- Experience in software development in C# or C/C++ or other high-level languages and common software development tools,
- Experience with visualization tools and methods,
- Experience in preparing scientific publications,
- Proficiency in spoken and written German and/or English; project language is German,
- Confident demeanor and strong communication skills.
In addition, the following are desirable:
- extensive experience
- with common office software,
- with AR/VR frameworks and AR/VR hardware, as well as
- in project management.

Compensation is based on pay grade 13 of the TV-L collective bargaining agreement for holders of a doctoral degree who meet the other personal requirements ; for holders of a university degree such as a Diplom-Inf. (FH), a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, the candidate will be classified within a graded pay scale up to Pay Grade 12 of the TV-L. The primary place of employment is Zittau.
