The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG), Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is seeking to fill a position (40 hours/week) as soon as possible as part of the “EdgeVision” project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF):
Research Assistant (m/f/d)

for a fixed term until May 31, 2026.
Embedded systems, combined with AR/VR or XR technologies and integrated with energy-efficient hardware modules, offer a wide range of possibilities for developing intelligent systems for human-technology interaction in the field of wearables.
The goal of the project is to research artificial intelligence technologies and AR/VR or XR methodologies, identify innovative application possibilities, and test them in practical research scenarios. The technical/scientific focus involves researching and developing the necessary AR/VR methods to implement the identified use cases and application requirements.
The position holder (m/f/d) will support the project team, particularly with the following tasks:
- Research on existing AR/VR technologies,
- Setting up and maintaining the AR/VR technologies used (HUD/HMD/CAVE),
- Testing of functional prototypes and sample applications (AR/VR devices, intelligent systems),
- Developing requirements in cooperation with project partners,
- Verifying the developed AR/VR models and methods against the defined requirements,
- Collaborating on the preparation and presentation of project reports and scientific papers.
The following knowledge and skills are required
- A college degree in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, mechatronics, or engineering physics (at least a B.Sc., Diplom (FH), or comparable degree),
- Expertise and experience in the fields of AR/VR,
- Experience in software development using C/C++ or other high-level languages and common software development tools,
- Experience with visualization tools and methods,
- Written and spoken German and/or English (B2 level), with German as the project language,
- Confident demeanor and strong communication skills.
In addition, the following are desirable:
- experience
- in research,
- in project management,
- with common office software,
- with AR/VR frameworks,
- in the field of hardware-software co-design.

Salary for employees covered by the collective bargaining agreement is up to Pay Grade 11 of the TV-L, provided the candidate meets the professional qualifications. The primary place of work is Zittau. A probationary period will be agreed upon.
