Research Associate (m/f/d) — Reference: 52-2024-EdgeVision ES —

for a fixed term ending May 31, 2026.

Embedded and edge AI solutions, when combined with energy-efficient hardware modules, offer a wide range of possibilities for the development of intelligent field devices and cyber-physical systems, as well as in the areas of wearables and AR/VR technologies. The goal of the project is to research and further develop new AI solutions in order to identify innovative application possibilities and test them in practical test cases in the field of embedded systems. The technical and scientific scope involves researching and developing the necessary AI methods and algorithms to implement the use cases and application requirements identified by the project partners. The planned energy efficiency of the AI methods developed is intended to make a significant contribution to the technical implementation of the test setups in the form of wearables or smart field devices. The position holder (m/f/d) will be responsible in particular for the following tasks:

  • Research on existing AI frameworks,
  • Defining requirements in cooperation with the project partners,
  • Research, development, and refinement of AI methods,
  • Providing the researched and implemented AI suite to the project partners,
  • Collaborating on the design of functional prototypes and sample applications (AR devices, smart field devices),
  • Collaborating with project partners, Participating in scientific exchange and discourse with industry and research partners,
  • Assisting in the preparation and presentation of project reports and scientific papers

 

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • a university degree in a scientific field, preferably in electrical engineering, computer science, or mechatronics,
  • Expertise and experience in the field of embedded systems,
  • Experience in software development in C/C++ or other high-level languages,
  • Experience using embedded development environments,
  • written and spoken German and/or English (B2 level); German as the project language,
  • Confident demeanor and strong communication skills.

In addition, the following are desirable:

  • experience
    • in the design and construction of functional prototypes,
    • in the field of hardware-software co-design,
    • experience in project management
    • with common office software,
    • and with AI frameworks.

Further information

Salary for employees covered by the collective bargaining agreement is up to pay grade 13 (EG 13) under the TV-L, provided the required qualifications are met. The primary place of work is Zittau.
