Joint ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of Saxon universities in Zwickau.
On Monday, October 16, 2017, the founding of the five universities of applied sciences in Saxony was celebrated with a ceremony at the August Horch Museum in Zwickau.
With high-ranking guests from science, research, politics, associations and business, Saxony's five universities of applied sciences (HAW) celebrated 25 years of success with a joint ceremony. The State Minister for Science and the Arts, Dr. Eva-Maria Stange, gave the welcoming address on behalf of the Saxon Minister President.
During the celebration, the rectors of the five Saxon UAS focused on the various current facets of science and research. To this end, they had invited competent discussion partners.
The exemplary career of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jan Höntschel, who studied at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTW) and is now a manager at Globalfoundries Dresden and honorary professor, was just as much a topic as the current view of studying at the University of Applied Sciences for Technology, Economics and Culture in Leipzig (HTWK) by graduate Hannes Hinerasky or the importance of the HAWs as a central pillar for securing the demand for skilled engineers for the Saxon economy from the perspective of Dr.-Ing.Jens Walther, Chairman of the Saxony State Association of the Association of German Engineers (VDI). Katharina Müller-Eppendorfer studied at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences (HSMW) and, as a former competitive athlete and mother of two children, was able to highlight the importance of the university as a supporter in all situations in life. The fifth discussion partner was Prof. Dr. Matthias Richter, former Vice-Rector for Research at the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (WHZ). He discussed the strength of the WHZ in the field of research and its importance for Saxony's economy.
After the unifying round of talks, the universities took part in a linguistic competition. In a science slam, each university sent a representative into the race to win the trophy for the best slammer with their interpretation of a scientific topic.
