Medal of Honor awarded

By resolution of the Senate, the Senate awarded the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences Medal of Honor—donated by the Friends of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, e. V.—to Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Karl-Heinz Wolf in recognition of his long-standing close ties to Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, particularly in the development and consolidation of the curriculum for the Molecular Biotechnology program as well as in the practical training of students.

This was preceded by a well-reasoned recommendation from Senator Prof. Annett Fuchs, Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences. Of particular note is Prof. Wolf’s demonstrated subject-specific competence in bioprocess engineering, his ongoing commitment to the further development of the curriculum, as well as his participation in conferences and events organized by the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences—a level of engagement that goes far beyond that expected of a part-time lecturer, according to the citation.

The award was accepted by Prof. Dr. Friedrich Albrecht, Rector; Prof. Dr. Annett Fuchs, Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences; and Prof. Reinhardt Hassa, Chair of the Friends of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

Prof. Wolf expressed his gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him and looks forward to continuing to contribute to teaching in the Molecular Biotechnology program to the best of his ability.

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences may honor individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the development and reputation of the university by conferring upon them the title of Honorary Senator or the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences Medal of Honor. Honorary senators have rendered outstanding service to the development of the university as a whole, while recipients of the Medal of Honor have contributed to the development of individual departments. The two previous recipients of the Medal of Honor are from the fields of engineering and the social sciences.
