The art of the decision

Expert jury selects art for the ZUKUNFTSVISIONEN festival of contemporary art.

202 international and regional applications, five experts from the contemporary art scene and a weekend to make the final decision - to select the exhibiting artists for this year's Future Visions Festival (ZuVi). The ZuVi has been held on the German-Polish border in Görlitz since 2007 and has been organized every year with a great deal of commitment, creativity and courage by a voluntary, predominantly student team. The festival deliberately focuses on vacant buildings in order to draw attention to the potential of old ruins. It creates a platform for regional and international artists from the contemporary art scene.

On March 10, five gallery owners, artists and curators came together at the Görlitz campus  under the direction of the festival project's art managers to review and discuss the submitted artworks. From photographs to multimedia works, from installations to performance art - the jury looked at exciting and diverse works that approached the exhibition theme "Seal of Quality - Ungood" in very different and individual ways.

The jury selected the works for the exhibition in a two-step process. The selected art should be full of originality, provide impulses, stimulate and convince visually and ideally. It will fill a vacant building in Görlitz with life for a week; an exhibition that will fascinate its visitors, encourage them to pause and enjoy a few hours of art and events from a varied program of workshops, concerts and evening events. With art at its heart and the curiosity of visitors, the exhibition becomes a week-long hub for encounters and exchange in an informal, unique atmosphere.

The Future Visions Festival takes place this year from May 5 to 12 in Görlitz. Curious to find out more? Take a look at the website: www.zuvi-festival.de.
