The Grenzlandtheater Zittau

Prof. Tomlow presented a new book on the history of the Grenzlandtheater Zittau at the GHT Zittau.

On February 3, 2016, the publishing house Grafische Werkstätten Zittau presented the book *Das Grenzlandtheater in Zittau 1934–1936*, with Dr. Gunter Oettel serving as moderator.

Following the book presentation by the author, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jos Tomlow, attendees had the opportunity to speak with him and co-author Sabine Spitzner-Schmieder and have their copies signed.

Among the approximately 90 guests in the foyer of the Gerhart-Hauptmann Theater in Zittau were theater enthusiasts such as Artistic Director Dorotty Szalma and former Mayor Jürgen Kloß, as well as university faculty and staff, including former Rector Peter Dierich and the former Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Jochen Wilsdorf; Head of the Research Department, Dr. Lothar Kahnt; and Peter Schiffner. The latter is the grandson of Zittau architect Richard Schiffner, who narrowly lost the design competition for the Grenzlandtheater in 1934.

The publication, which addresses the difficult topic of representative Nazi architecture, is part of the series “Scientific Reports of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.” It received financial support from the HSZG and the Institut für Bauwesen Zittau e.V. A book review by Jan Lange appeared in the *Sächsische Zeitung – Zittau* on January 8, 2016.
