The Grenzlandtheater Zittau

Prof. Tomlow presented a new book on the history of the Grenzlandtheater Zittau at the GHT Zittau.

On 03.02.2016, the publisher Grafische Werkstätten Zittau presented the book "Das Grenzlandtheater in Zittau 1934-1936", moderated by Dr. Gunter Oettel.

Following the book presentation by the author Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jos Tomlow, was given the opportunity to talk to him and co-author Sabine Spitzner-Schmieder and have the book signed.

Among the 90 or so guests in the foyer of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater Zittau were theater enthusiasts such as artistic director Dorotty Szalma and former mayor of Zittau Jürgen Kloß as well as members of the university, including former rector Peter Dierich and former dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Jochen Wilsdorf, head of the research department Dr. Lothar Kahnt and Peter Schiffner. The latter is the grandson of Zittau architect Richard Schiffner, who was narrowly defeated in the design competition for the Grenzlandtheater in 1934 .

The publication, which deals with the difficult topic of representative Nazi architecture, is part of the series Wissenschaftliche Berichte der Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz.   It received financial support from the HSZG and the Institut für Bauwesen Zittau e.V. A book review can be found in the Sächsische Zeitung - Zittau from 08.01.2016 by Jan Lange.
