State Secretary Prof. Dr. Heike Graßmann and Head of Division Bruno Bartscher visited the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
On September 16, Prof. Dr. Heike Graßmann, State Secretary at the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWK), visited the Zittau campus of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) together with Bruno Bartscher, Head of the Universities of Applied Sciences and Cooperative State University Department at the SMWK. The inaugural visit was characterized by an exchange on future topics of university development and direct encounters with students.
After welcoming the guests and signing the new HSZG Golden Book, the Rectorate presented key areas of development at the HSZG. Together with the university management, the State Secretary visited the LaNDER³ natural fiber research center and the Zittau power plant laboratory, two exemplary facilities for application-oriented research in Upper Lusatia. Over lunch in the canteen, students from the Student Council took the opportunity to share their perspectives and discuss issues relating to studying at the HSZG with the State Secretary.
Z for Zittau/Görlitz - Z for future. I was particularly pleased with the exchange with students about study conditions, committee participation and the topic of home, the innovative approaches to digitalization and the pioneering research projects that are driving the region forward. The Rectorate's strategic work for university development is also impressive. It's not just about teaching and research - it's about actively shaping the future for a strong and attractive region of Eastern Saxony.
The university management also emphasized the importance of the exchange:
The visit is a strong signal of appreciation for our university. Open discussions about digitalization, good framework conditions for research and the concerns of our students are crucial to the further development of the HSZG as a modern, future-oriented university.
In the new mobile learning location "Airlab", the State Secretary gained concrete insights into how the HSZG approaches STEM education with its Future Learning Location Upper Lusatia (ZukLOS) project. With ZukLOS, the university has launched an initiative that opens up innovative approaches to science and technology for children, young people, students and citizens of all ages. Prof. Dr. Heike Graßmann expressly welcomed this approach by the HSZG to secure skilled workers at an early stage and strengthen the region as a place of learning and the future.
Keeping its finger on the pulse, focusing on people and their needs and showing great commitment to the issues of the future - this is how our university presented itself during this visit and left a lasting impression.
