"Getting older. Being older"

Prof. Dr. Hoff, Professor of Social Gerontology, publishes new guide for older people.

Prof. Dr. Hoff, Professor of Social Gerontology, Director of the Research Institute "Health, Ageing and Technology" (GAT) and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, together with Prof. Dr.med. Christian Zippel, specialist in internal medicine and geriatrics and Professor Emeritus at the Medical Faculty of Humboldt University Berlin (Charité) and Alice Salomon University Berlin, have published a new guidebook for older people entitled "Älter werden. Being older".

Growing older and being older raises many questions for which answers need to be found. The editors have therefore spent many years working with the Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Organizations (BAGSO), senior citizens' offices and other institutions providing assistance to the elderly to collect questions that are answered in the book. This has resulted in a broad-based guide. In 26 chapters, 30 experts provide answers to a wide range of questions, as well as tips and suggestions on how to deal with any problems that arise.

The book is based on the latest scientific findings, but is written in a way that is easy to understand. It is intended to help senior citizens and people who want to provide the best possible support for their ageing relatives. If you are curious, you can download the book here or directly via the following order form.

The discussion of specific issues and recent research findings on the optimal care of older people and their relatives is also the focus of the Master's degree course in Social Gerontology at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The MA in Social Gerontology begins every year in the summer semester. The next enrolment deadline is March 15, 2018; the course begins after the end of the Easter vacations. You can find more information about the part-time MA in Social Gerontology here.
