Eight GUt(e) days!

The Health and Environment Days (GUt) showed that exercise and activity can be easily integrated into everyday life.

The Health and Environment Days (GUt) from 01.06.-08.06.2016 got the staff and students of our university and the city of Zittau going and showed that exercise and activity can be easily integrated into everyday life.

Our Rector, Prof. Friedrich Albrecht, and the Mayor of Zittau, Thomas Zenker, proved this first and foremost during the GUt bike tour. Together with employees of the university and the city administration, they cycled from the Zittau market square to the border triangle (Poland-Czech Republic-Germany) and back. On the way, the cyclists were even welcomed by the mayor of Hrádek nad Nisou, Josef Horinka. A symbolic bicycle tour for the plus of movement, the environment and good cooperation without borders.

In addition to cycling, walking also fits perfectly into everyday life! The pedometer team challenge between the university and the city of Zittau motivated the participants to walk over 140,000 steps. Of course, this could be combined with the commute to work, the paths on campus and other GUt activities such as the municipal herb tours in Zittau and Görlitz as well as the hike through the Zittau city forest with forestry office manager Ms. Bültemeier.

Those who exercise "GUt" should also eat "GUt". But please not "Voll Verzuckert", as the film in the Kronenkino Zittau and Camilo Görlitz showed. Instead, sugar- and meat-free food was served on the movie evenings in the Volksküchen format. At lunchtime, the mensaVital in Zittau and Görlitz served dishes that were prepared in a particularly vitamin-friendly, low-fat and nutritionally balanced way and encouraged people to cook them at home.

There was also an organic market in the canteens, where organic, regional and global fair trade goods were on sale and it was possible to talk to the sellers about the products and production conditions.
Organic, regional and global fair was also served for breakfast on GUt Sunday. Homemade and fair trade spreads, fair trade coffee, delicious rice pancakes and other regional and organic products adorned the GUt(en) breakfast table.

All good things come in threes, and the third was called the Smoothie Bike. A smoothie made from fairly traded bananas and regional apples was pedaled using one's own muscle power and without electricity. This was accompanied by a FairTrade coffee made from compostable cornstarch cups and lots of background knowledge about fair trade and the labeling issue.

And anyone who has worked up a sweat after these eight good GUt(s) days can now make use of their home-made GUt soap !

And keep going, keep moving, keep active...
...cycle to work until 31.08.2016, for example, and win exciting prizes such as a Bollon ride, an adventure weekend or a city tour. A campaign by our GUt partners AOK-Plus and ADFC. Further information and registration can be found at: https://www.mit-dem-rad-zur-arbeit.de/infoservice/index.php
