Field of action Participation

The “Participation” action area holds particular significance in the BNC; it is not comparable to other management systems and reflects the unique characteristics of universities as collaborative institutions where people of all generations work together, learn, teach, and conduct research.

Participation combines the elements of both an action area and a building block in terms of content and is deliberately placed at the center of the framework. This allows universities to select measures based on the chosen building blocks across all action areas. The aim is to involve all stakeholders at a university in the co-creation of a sustainable campus.

This enables the target groups to be addressed in a tailored and effective manner, and measures from the building blocks to be planned, implemented, evaluated, and further developed in a good and synergistic manner.

In addition, the goal is to increase voluntary participation, personal commitment, and reflection on thoughts and actions, thereby strengthening the system’s effectiveness and driving it forward continuously.
