Making everyday study life more efficient

The HSZG has reached another milestone in its digital transformation. Starting March 1, it will become the first university in Saxony to introduce the digital campus card.

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) is the first university in Saxony to introduce the digital Campus Card! Starting March 1, 2025, HSZG students will be able to conveniently use their student ID via the “MyHSZG” campus app on their smartphones. The new digital campus card serves as official proof of student status and can be used to check out media from the University Library via barcodes. In addition, students can activate their Deutschlandticket directly on the campus card and use it on local and regional public transportation throughout Germany.

In the coming months, additional features will be activated on the digital student ID card, designed to make everyday student life at the University of Zittau/Görlitz even more efficient. These include access to university buildings and a payment function for the student canteen and the campus printing service.

How the digital Campus Card works:
  1. Download the "MyHSZG" app (iOS App Store / Google Play Store).
  2. Register with the university login.
  3. Select the "Campus Card" under "My studies".
  4. Accept and confirm the terms of use.
  5. Select ticket and digital functions - done!

In addition, a digital ID card is also planned for university staff. As a digital Campus Card, it will in the future enable not only access control but also time tracking and other internal university services.

With these enhancements, the digital ID card will become a central tool of the digital university.

As the Student Council, we support the university in its efforts to improve the day-to-day academic life of all students through the digitization of processes. With the introduction of the digital Campus Card in the “MyHSZG” app, students will now have their semester ticket, library card, and other features always at their fingertips—just a few clicks away. We are pleased with the good collaboration with the university and our partners.

Project Implementation

The digital campus card was developed and implemented by an agile project team that included students from the university. A key element of this project was the development of the HSZG API, which enables seamless integration between the campus management system and the campus app. This interface ensures secure and efficient data transfer and provides essential information for the digital campus card.

With the digital Campus Card, our students have all the important services in their pocket for a more convenient campus life.

Lars Rönisch, Head of the University Data Centre

In addition to the technical implementation, a comprehensive testing phase involving the students also played a key role. During this phase, valuable feedback was gathered to optimize user-friendliness and implement potential improvements at an early stage. Through close collaboration among all parties involved, an innovative and efficient solution was created that best meets the students’ needs.

The success of this project demonstrates how important teamwork is between students and the university's administrative units. Together, we were able to launch an innovative solution that makes everyday student life much easier.
