Enthusiastic "En Détail" photo competition

The exhibition is dedicated to the often overlooked that disappears behind the big picture in everyday life.

The official opening of the "En Détail" photo competition took place on November 26, 2025 - and attracted numerous interested photo enthusiasts. The exhibition is entirely dedicated to the often overlooked, the small, the detail that tends to disappear behind the big picture in everyday life.

Introduction with a keen eye

The official introduction was provided by Prof. Matthias Fichna, who got visitors in the mood for the exhibition with an impressive speech. He emphasized the importance of sharpening one's own eye and consciously engaging with subtleties that we miss in everyday life.

Chancellor Matthias Duscha was present as a representative of the university management. In his welcoming address, he also emphasized that it is often the little things that we overlook because our attention is focused on the big picture.

The evening was accompanied musically by the outstanding saxophone skills of Friedrich Wodarczack, who created a special atmosphere with his warm, clear sounds.

Silvio Thamm then took over the presentation of the award-winning works. He read out the laudatory speech for each award-winning painting with great expressiveness. Together with Elisa Schmidt (Gutachten Lausitz), he announced the winners and presented the prizes.

The award ceremony

The moment many had been waiting for: the award ceremony.

  • Young Talent Award:
The award went to the photo "Rusty Fly", which impressed with its precise focus and the strong contrast between the fragile fly and its industrial surroundings.
  • Third place:
Due to an exceptionally close decision, third place was awarded twice:
    - a detailed view of the traditional technology of a water mill, characterized by material traces and implied movement,
    - and a black and white shot of sherry cask stamps, which impressed with its clear focus and calm order within the chaos.
  • Second place:
An image of an apple on a tree trunk impressed with its staged, central composition and deliberate play with transience.
  • First place:
The first prize went to the photograph of a frozen soap bubble, whose perfect shape, fine crystals and the interplay of light and nature radiated particular precision.
Many thanks to the jury!
