This year’s IGCS Winter School, themed “Smart Grids—Sustainable Integration of Renewable Energy Sources for the Power Grids of Tomorrow,” took place from February 24 to March 7, 2018, in Chennai, India. Approximately 30 German and Indian students worked on project assignments to develop solutions to the above-mentioned problem, which were presented at a final conference at the end of the Winter School. The project work was supplemented by presentations from Indian and German speakers.
In his lecture on high-voltage insulation systems, Prof. Dr. Stefan Kornhuber provided insight into the research activities at Zittau University of Applied Sciences/Görlitz and highlight key points for the projects.

The Indo-German Center for Sustainability ( IGCS) was established in 2010 at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai, India, on the initiative of the German and Indian governments.

In addition to IIT Madras, the TU9 universities are involved in the project, as is Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel (CAU).

On the German side, the center is organized by RWTH Aachen University, which has maintained a partnership with IIT Madras since 1959.
