We’ve gotten off to a good start, and the first tasks have been assigned to bring the next five years to life: As part of the Saxony⁵ project—Intelligently Networking Knowledge Flows—we were able to warmly welcome our project partners from Zwickau, Dresden, Leipzig, and Mittweida to internal kick-off meetings on two consecutive days.

On Thursday, April 12, the Co-Creation Lab for Supply Infrastructure was launched. Behind this working title lies the planning and establishment of a space that will bring together the expertise of all engineers, natural scientists, and social scientists working on the topic of critical infrastructure. The ongoing digitization in the fields of electricity, heat, gas, water, and wastewater makes it necessary to bring together stakeholders from academia, industry, and society to collaborate intensively. At the heart of the Co-Creation Lab will be a large experimentation and training control center where a wide variety of scenarios involving future challenges can be simulated and practiced immediately.

On Friday, April 13, representatives from all Saxon universities of applied sciences gathered to launch another subproject within the broad-based Saxony⁵ initiative. The Marketplace of Ideas is aimed specifically at the general public and serves as a platform for enhanced dialogue between universities, the business community, and citizens. Existing, good-received event formats will be expanded, but there will also be room for innovative approaches—both on-site and openly accessible digitally.

Thanks to the “Innovative University” funding initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the five project partners have made “transfer, transfer, and more transfer” their guiding principle.
