Almost simultaneously with the start of the new 2018–19 winter semester, the new Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory in Zittau was inaugurated after a construction period of about one year.

EMC refers to the interference-free interaction of high-power electrical components with sensitive electronic control systems in confined spaces. The enormous changes in this field over the past few years made a new laboratory necessary.

In addition to state-of-the-art computer-controlled measurement technology, the lab features two large test chambers where, shielded from the outside world, even the smallest field strengths of electromagnetic emissions can be measured, or high field strengths can be generated to test immunity to interference—all without affecting surrounding equipment.

Care was taken to ensure that the setup and equipment of the measurement stations comply with current international standards. This allows us, on the one hand, to provide practical training for students of electrical engineering, who find an environment here similar to that in other testing institutes. On the other hand, this also ensures the comparability of the results obtained in the laboratory with those from other laboratories, which is essential for research tasks and collaboration with other institutions.

Furthermore, the established laboratory capacity is also available to companies that do not have such specialized knowledge and resources. We have already provided initial achievements to local companies.
