Mr. Klette, laboratory manager at the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory and a research associate in Prof. Kratzsch’s research group at the IPM, recently successfully completed his continuing education as a qualified person for pressure vessels and piping in accordance with the BetrSichV.

The training focused on the applicable legal frameworks, such as the Product Safety Act (ProdSG), the Pressure Equipment Directive (DGRL), the Industrial Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV), and the Technical Rules for Industrial Safety (TRBS). Furthermore, the necessary inspection activities, the applicable inspection intervals, and the inspection of specific pressure equipment were covered. Mr. Klette is now qualified to perform inspections of pressure equipment in accordance with the provisions of the Industrial Safety Ordinance. This includes both inspections prior to the commissioning of pressure equipment and periodic inspections, provided these do not fall within the scope of responsibility of a notified body (e.g., TÜV Süd).

These skills are urgently needed in the research project “Highly Transient Thermal Energy Storage System for Plant-Friendly and Energy-Efficient Flexibilization of Thermal Energy Plants,” which is funded by the European Union and the Free State of Saxony —abbreviated as HOTHES—at the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory on the THERESA test facility, which is funded by the European Union and the Free State of Saxony.

This means that the entire university now has a qualified point of contact for all matters related to pressure vessels and piping.
