Discover New Energy Sources for Saxony: This is the theme of the Saxon Energy Days . From April 5 to 26, the focus will be on renewable energy, climate protection, and innovative solutions for a sustainable future. On April 9 and 10, you’ll also have the opportunity in Zittau to learn more and get a behind-the-scenes look at research and application. The events are designed for students, aspiring students, and citizens of all ages interested in the energy system.
Power Plant Laboratory Open House
At the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, scientific questions regarding the increased flexibility of thermal power plants through the use of energy storage systems are investigated and validated in an application-oriented manner. To this end, the lab is equipped with an electrically heated steam generator and steam storage system (power-to-heat), as well as a proprietary thermal battery and a thermal energy storage test facility, among other things.
On April 10 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., interested visitors can learn more about the research and development taking place in Zittau. Lab Director Torsten Klette and his colleagues look forward to your visit!
The tours are designed for interested teenagers, students, and members of the public. Of course, families with young aspiring researchers are also welcome. Admission to the event is free.

Saxony⁵ Also Participating in the Opening
The opening event of the Saxon Energy Days will take place on April 5, 2025, in Chemnitz. Solutions and plans for the energy transition will be presented in an open trade show format. Minister of State Dirk Panter and Mayor Sven Schulze will officiate the opening. Staff from the Saxony⁵ transfer project will also be on site and look forward to your visit!
The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the grounds of inetz GmbH (Heizkraftwerk Nord, Blankenburgstraße 2) in Chemnitz.
