Experiences, opportunities and challenges of inclusive political education and democratic participation of people with learning disabilities are the focus of a transfer conference, which will take place on 14.9.2023 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
The conference is being organized by the Zeit.Zeichen project of Diakonie St. Martin and the St. Marienthal International Meeting Centre (IBZ) in cooperation with Prof. Nadine Jukschat from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the HSZG. It marks the conclusion of the three-year "Zeit.Zeichen" project, in which various materials and formats for democracy education for people with learning difficulties were developed, tested and implemented, with academic support from Prof. Jukschat.
About the program:
Dr. Stephan Meyer, District Administrator of the Görlitz district, is the patron of the event and will give a welcome address, as will Michael Welsch, State Commissioner for Inclusion of People with Disabilities. Solvejg Höppner from the mobile advisory team of Kulturbüro Sachsen e.V. will give a keynote speech on "Experiences and conditions for success of good practice examples of political education for people with disabilities".
In the afternoon, parallel workshops will be held on 3 topics:
1) Co-determination of people with disabilities in local authorities
2) Netzwerk Nö. Sexual self-determination for people with disabilities
3) Practical test of methods and didactics of democracy education for people with disabilities
Participation is free of charge. Registration is possible until August 31, 2023 at zeit.zeichen@diakonie-st-martin.de
