Radon in half-timbered houses: Invisible danger in focus

Lecture evening of the Information Center Umgebindehaus (IZU) of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences

Begin 21. May 2025 - 17:00 Uhr

The Information Center Umgebindehaus (IZU) of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences invites you to a public lecture evening in Zittau on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 5:00 pm. The event will take place in Room 5, Building ZII, Schliebenstraße 21 and will focus on an often underestimated health risk: the radioactive gas radon.

Odorless, tasteless and invisible - radon nevertheless poses a serious risk when it occurs in buildings and accumulates in indoor air. There is a particular focus on the question of whether half-timbered houses in the region could be increasingly affected due to their special construction.

Prof. Thomas Schönmuth and Uwe Heidrich from the Radon Information Center at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will provide answers to this question. They will explain how radon is formed, what risks it poses and what protective measures make sense. Another key topic will be the evaluation of radon measurements that were carried out in numerous Umgebinde houses last winter.

"We are delighted that many homeowners made these measurements possible," said the IZU organization team. The event is aimed at interested members of the public, lovers of Umgebinde houses and builders.

Participation is free of charge and registration is not required.
The event will be held in German.
