Gamification in university teaching has the overarching goal of initiating and promoting a learning process by means of typical game processes (goal, rule, strategy, etc.) and elements (reality transformation, excitement, experience, etc.). In the first part of the short online workshop, you will be introduced to good practice in gamification in university teaching, in particular using Lego Serious Play. The second part offers you an overview of how the moderated process Lego Serious Play can be integrated into your own teaching in a didactically meaningful way to activate, visualize, reflect and motivate as well as to develop the skills of learners.
Learning objectives
After completing the short online workshop, participants will be able to
- name good practices on the topic of gamification in university teaching, in particular using Lego Serious Play, and
- present the opportunities and challenges of using these.
Daniel Winkler is a lecturer in higher education pedagogy at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. His areas of expertise include: the fundamentals of higher education pedagogy, engineering education, laboratory pedagogy, and the use of simulation games and educational technology in higher education. He studied at the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (Bachelor of Engineering) and at the International University Institute Zittau of the Technical University of Dresden (Master of Arts). In his doctoral research at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Dresden University of Technology, he is conducting in-depth research on the design of teaching and learning scenarios involving the use of augmented reality. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Society for Engineering Education and the Engineers Without Borders association.
