(Self-learning) Digital Workspace (for teachers): Designing and integrating e-assessments: Tips and tools for teachers

E-assessments are used to evaluate learners’ knowledge levels and enable instructors to select appropriate learning content, identify key areas of focus, plan learning opportunities, choose teaching methods, and form learning groups. Diagnostic assessments—such as placement tests for preparatory courses, self-assessments for choosing a major, or entrance exams before internships, as well as through formative assessments to determine the level of knowledge and learning progress within a class / course, these formats provide valuable information for shaping future teaching and learning processes. The integration of electronic exercises and tests into teaching enables instructors to tailor instruction to students’ needs.

This Digital Workspace offers:

• an introduction to the pedagogical fundamentals of e-assessments, as well as an overview of the functions of diagnostic and formative assessments
• ideas for conducting assessments and examples of best practices from the higher education landscape
• Support in designing and testing e-assessment formats in your own teaching

Learning Objectives

Once you have completed all the offerings in this Digital Workspace, you will be able to:

• identify the general functions of diagnostic and formative assessment,
• identify potential applications of electronic assessment formats in teaching,
• identify established tools for electronic testing approaches in teaching and implement tests technically,
• design electronic tests for your classes / courses,
• identify the potential implications of assessment results and derive concrete courses of action based on the results of your own assessments.

What is a Digital Workspace?
In open workshop formats, all stakeholders involved in teaching at the partner universities (see below) can work on the design and development of digital media-supported teaching and learning scenarios. By drawing on a wide range of expertise and engaging in peer exchange, they not only expand their individual skills but also directly implement a concrete, planned project in the field of digital higher education. This creates immediate added value for the instructors themselves and for the universities as a whole.
