Citizens meet science - energy storage in the Zittau power plant laboratory

Marvel at the thermo-mechanical electricity storage prototype and talk to the researchers in the Zittau power plant laboratory.

Begin 17. November 2025 - 17:00 Uhr
End 17. November 2025 - 19:15 Uhr

You hear it everywhere: energy crisis, phase-out of coal, storage for renewable energy. The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has a long tradition of researching energy-related topics. It is currently seeking solutions for a rapid transition in the energy supply away from fossil fuels. You can see this in action at the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory: storing electricity in steam.

The thermomechanical energy storage system requires no rare earth elements and can absorb and release large amounts of energy in a short period of time. Come see the prototype for yourself and talk with the researchers at the Power Plant Laboratory.

Venue: Zittau Power Plant Laboratory (ZKWL), Schliebenstraße 3, Zittau (Stadtwerke grounds, access from the Mandau riverbank)
