The Master’s degree programme in electrical engineering / mechatronics prepares you for challenging roles at the forefront of technological innovation. By choosing between the specialization tracks in mechatronics or Intelligent Networks and Systems, you’ll specialize in forward-looking fields of technology. The Mechatronics specialization enables you to develop innovative solutions at the intersection of mechanics, electronics, and computer science. With a focus on Intelligent Networks and Systems, you’ll become an expert in the energy systems of the future. A particularly attractive feature: The mechatronics specialization can be completed as a dual-degree program in cooperation with a Czech university. The English-language third semester also offers you the opportunity to spend a semester abroad.

Course content
The master’s degree programme in electrical engineering / mechatronics combines research-based learning with practice-oriented project work. The degree programme is structured over four semesters and follows a clear framework that gradually gives you more freedom to choose your own areas of focus.
In the first semester, you’ll delve into different subject areas depending on your chosen specialization. The mechatronics specialization covers topics such as pattern recognition, machine learning, advanced control and regulation technology, and building automation. In the Intelligent Networks and Systems track, you’ll focus on renewable energy, grid control systems, smart grids, and energy engineering. The second semester is dedicated to a research project that you’ll carry out under professional supervision, supplemented by compulsory elective modules tailored to your interests. The third semester is taught entirely in English, preparing you for the international workforce. You have the option of completing it at a partner university abroad. You will devote the fourth semester to your master’s thesis, in which you will independently work on a challenging research or development project.

Research & Development
You’ll work on innovative technical solutions in research departments or institutes. You’ll design and test new technologies, analyze data, and use your expertise to contribute to the further development of electrical engineering systems and components.
Project Management
You will coordinate complex technical projects from conception through implementation. You will plan resources, lead interdisciplinary teams, and ensure that challenging electrical engineering projects are completed on time and to the required quality standards.
Intelligent energy systems
You optimize the integration of renewable energies into existing grid structures. You will develop control concepts for smart grids, analyze load flows and design future-proof solutions for a sustainable energy supply.
Automation technology

Admission Requirements
A completed, relevant bachelor’s degree (e.g., mechatronics, electrical engineering) with 180 or 210 ECTS credits, or a Diplom-Ingenieur degree with 240 ECTS credits.
