Have you just started studying at the university in Görlitz and have no idea what to do in the fall? Then here is a top 7 list of the best things to do on beautiful fall days, but also for the colder and grayer days. You also have the opportunity to discover your new city alone or with your friends. Try it out and have fun!
Görlitz has many beautiful parks and green spaces that turn into an aesthetically colorful backdrop in autumn. The Stadtpark and the Nikolaizwinger are located in the center of Görlitz and invite you to take cheerful walks on sunny days, but the Ölberggarten of the Heilig-Grab-Anlage, which is located a little outside, also offers a beautiful backdrop and, as a highlight, a complete view over Görlitz and its skyline. Cornelius from the Stura team finds "classic excursion destinations such as a hike up the Landeskrone or a walk along the Volksbad very beautiful in the fall scenery". The Landeskrone is Görlitz's local mountain and not only offers pleasant paths for a tour, but also a short hike to the summit, where a unique view of the entire city and Lake Berzdorf opens up.
Classic city tours are no longer spectacular and packed with historical facts, but how about a city tour through the film sets of Görlitz? In recent years, Görliwood has developed into a real movie town, where films such as "The Reader", "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "Inglourious Basterds" were shot. This makes it tempting to watch all the films and look out for the Görlitz sets. You might even have the chance to get an extra role for the next movie during your time in Görlitz!
Brewing beer is a well-known Görlitz tradition. It is therefore no surprise that Görlitz has several breweries. The best known is undoubtedly the Landskron brewery. It not only offers guided tours with tastings, but also a bar with a terrace in the middle of the brewery's historic setting. There you can enjoy the last rays of sunshine with a cool beer. There is also another, smaller brewery in Görlitz that is becoming increasingly well-known. We are talking about the Bierblume. It is located in the heart of Görlitz's old town. The craft beer home brewery is a regional brewery with local value chains that organizes beer seminars as well as enjoyment and hands-on events. If you want to see for yourself and get an insight into their range, you can pay a visit to the Bierblume with your friends in the bar on Neißstraße.
If the weather doesn't play ball, there are also plenty of opportunities to do something indoors in the warm, either alone or in a group. We recommend a relaxed visit to the cinema or an adventurous participation in the Escape Room. In addition to the Filmpalast Görlitz, which shows the latest blockbusters, there is also the Camillo Kino in the old town. In addition to films on specific topics, it also shows documentaries and art films. The "Queer Cinema Week" festival also takes place in November, with films, lectures and concerts on the subject of LGBTIQ. Admission is free!
The student club at our university is the right place to go for evening activities. If you want to party, meet new people or have a drink with your friends, the student club is the place to be. There's everything from cozy bar evenings to wild theme parties, and the party continues on 3 November! The Maus invites you to a karaoke evening!
If you can't wait until then and would rather go partying: the Maus is open every Monday and Wednesday. You can find all other events here.
Not only Görlitz has a lot to offer in the fall season. You'll find beautiful spots and great things to do in the immediate vicinity. Get on the train or in your car and explore the surrounding area. The Zittau Mountains are only 45 minutes away by car and offer a wide range of varied routes for hiking and walking. These reward you with wonderful views of the three-country region. The spa town of Oybin is a great starting point for a hike in the Zittau Mountains. From there, the path leads you to the castle, which is still located in the town, or a little further to the pottery or the Kelchsteine. If you prefer a more leisurely ride, take the historic narrow-gauge railroad and travel through the mountain scenery from Zittau to Jonsdorf or Oybin. Another enchanting autumn backdrop can be found north of Görlitz in the Rhododendron Park Kromlau. The Rakotzbrücke bridge is a unique photo motif known throughout the region. The surrounding park also invites you to take long walks.
As the weather gets colder and colder, it's time for mulled wine and punch. But the Christmas market is still a while away. To pass the time, the ice rink on the Obermarkt invites you to skate in a romantic atmosphere. Next door, there are huts with food and drink ready for you. It starts on November 19th. So get your skates out now!
