University Choir of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the IHI Zittau
Since March 2009, KMD Neithard Bethke from Zittau has served as the choir director, conductor, and driving force behind the group. Our approximately 30 choir members are mostly students at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, but also include graduates who have remained loyal to the choir. We sing a wide-ranging classical and contemporary repertoire and perform in our own concerts about 4–5 times a year. Once a year, we prepare a major choral work with orchestral accompaniment and rehearse joint pieces with our partner choirs from Liberec.
There is no membership fee or similar requirement to join the choir. However, we ask new choir members to schedule an appointment for an initial meeting (don’t be afraid of the audition!) at and, after the first few rehearsals, to make a conscious decision for themselves about joining the choir. To ensure a good musical achievement, it’s important that every choir member is an active participant. And there’s plenty of time for fun, too! Whether it’s a trip to the pub after rehearsal, choir weekends, choir hiking days, group trips to the theater and opera, or choir tours—being a member of the choir is varied and exciting! We love exploring the Tri-Border Region and are always meeting interesting people through our choir activities!
