Two days of living a welcoming culture

The Studienkolleg Leipzig visits the HSZG. International prospective students discover campus life, study programs and research diversity.

On June 16 and 17, 2025, we welcomed a group of 21 students to our campus in Zittau for the second time, accompanied by the director of Studienkolleg Rahn Education Leipzig and eight lecturers. "The aim of this visit was to get to know our campus, our diverse range of courses and the friendly atmosphere on site," said Rector Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch.

Insight into our university

The two-day program offered exciting insights into the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as well as Business Administration and Engineering Management. The guests were able to get a feel for the facilities offered by the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the special support options available and the support the students can expect from the very beginning of their studies.

A warm welcome

The Rector, Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch, opened the event with warm words: "It is a great pleasure to welcome so many students to our university. Internationalization is particularly important to me, as it contributes significantly to the diversity of our beautiful region." After the welcoming words, the active hands-on program began.

Creative and technical workshops

The participants were able to get active themselves in various workshops. They printed T-shirts with university motifs, soldered jewelry, worked with 3D printers and laser cutters in the AirLab - so all prospective students could be creative and make their first contacts with the university.

Experience community at the welcome party

A special highlight was the welcome party in the Dezibar, where students from different countries were able to quickly develop a sense of community together with the guests from Leipzig with music, karaoke and a delicious buffet. Danaé Lange, Director of the Studienkolleg Rahn Education Leipzig, emphasized: "The two days are a unique opportunity for the students of our Studienkolleg to gain authentic insights into the courses offered, research areas at the HSZG and student life. The cooperation between the HSZG and Rahn Education has been of central importance for years when it comes to the successful integration of young academics from abroad. This trip shows that very clearly."

Warm greetings from afar - Vice-Rector Keil accompanies the visit despite business trip

Even though she was unable to be there in person, the Vice-Rector for Research, Transfer and International Affairs, Professor Sophia Keil, took the opportunity to convey her appreciation to the guests from Leipzig from afar. She sent a personal video message from a business trip to Sweden: " It is a pleasure to welcome you to our university. Your visit is a wonderful opportunity for us to strengthen international cooperation and discover new ways of learning and researching together. I am convinced that such encounters strengthen the bridges between countries and cultures and also give us as a university important impetus for our further development."

Study and research perspectives

After the Vice-Rector's warm words and a refreshing breakfast, the guests were given exciting insights into the degree programs offered by the Faculties of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration and Engineering Management. During soldering, CAD design, materials testing and Arduino workshops, our students were able to experience the practical and innovative study atmosphere at our university at first hand.

Important information for the start of your studies

As a degree, Madeleine Pohl from the International Office provided information about the application process and gave helpful tips for starting your studies. After a visit to Zittau's old town and making their own souvenirs, the Leipzig students finally set off on their journey home.

Conclusion and thanks

"This event was a complete success for our collaboration with Rahn Education Leipzig and has helped to further strengthen our international relations. It not only aroused interest in our university and our region, but also promoted intercultural exchange. We are particularly pleased that we were able to offer the fellows insights into our diverse range of courses, our innovative research environment and our open welcoming culture," sums up Rector Kratzsch.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this visit: the participants of the Studienkolleg Rahn Education Leipzig, the organization team, the faculties with their dedicated staff, especially Ondrej Svarc, Egmont Schreiter, Ahmer Omer for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Nora Terlunen, Mareike Schneider, Matthias Herrmann for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Tom Walter for the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Science and Madeleine Pohl from the Department of Studies and International Affairs. Special thanks go to Mario Linack and the Friends of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences for supporting the welcome party.

We look forward to further joint projects and an ongoing exchange to make our university even more international and diverse.
