Internship in Upper Lusatia

Students from the German-Kazakh University of Almaty completed their mandatory internship at companies in the region.

They actually did it: all seven students on the bachelor's degree course in energy and environmental engineering at the German-Kazakh University of Almaty completed their compulsory internship at companies in Zittau or the region.

In the summer semester of 2014, students from this and a younger year of study were guests at the Faculty of Mathematics/Natural Sciences as part of a two-week study trip to further their education in the field of quality, environmental and energy management systems. The older year of study then expressed the wish to be able to complete their compulsory internship in Zittau.

The corresponding internship places were organized via the Chair of Integrated Management Systems. In the period from 10.1.-8.4.2015, the students worked on interesting topics such as

  • Building a database on personal protective equipment and integrating the occupational health and safety management system into the quality and energy management system (Plouquet GmbH)
  • Determining the heat requirement for the conversion from steam to hot water heating (Abraham Dürninger GmbH & Co. GmbH)
  • Energy recovery at a hardening furnace (Ibex Automotive GmbH)
  • Energy consumption data analysis and derivation of energy saving potentials (MS Powertec)
  • Integration of the energy management system into the quality management system (SachsenFenster GmbH)
  • Development of a reference spectra database for the automatic sorting of bioplastics (RTT GmbH)
  • Evaluation and presentation of the environmental data of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG)

The feedback from the companies on the students' linguistic and technical qualifications and the results achieved was consistently positive to the degree of the internship. Many companies are interested in continuing the cooperation, both with these or other DKU students and with HSZG students in general. The internship also helped the companies to become better acquainted with the specialist offers and cooperation opportunities at the HSZG.

Beratungsgespräch mit Frau Suliman und Frau Kunze vom Akademischen Auslandsamt

A continuation of the cooperation between the companies and their former interns could be possible, as five of the seven students are interested in continuing their Master's degree in integrated management at the HSCG after completing their Bachelor's degree at DKU in May 2015. Before their departure, they therefore obtained detailed information about the application modalities, required documents and deadlines from the Student Administration Office. We would definitely look forward to seeing you again in Zittau!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported us organizationally, professionally and personally during the internship!
